3 WAYS TO A BALANCED LIFESTYLE
In this fast paced world, we find ourselves constantly
running to do the gazillion things we “have” to do in the 16-20 hours in which we
must do them! This often has a negative impact on other important areas of
life, because in a bid to meet up with the demands of a part of your life, the
other parts like family & relationship suffer neglect.
Failure to complete our often-unrealistic daily goals, leave
us with feelings of failure & inadequacy. These feelings can make you push
yourself harder or give up entirely. Little wonder, many successful people
believe that they cannot have successful careers & marriages. It is very
possible to have everything you want in life, here’s how:
1 1 Know that it is possible to be successful &
still have the kind of relationships you crave. People have been preconditioned
to expect that an aspect of their lives will have to be sacrificed for others
to thrive. Sacrifice for career success is inevitable, but the sacrifice doesn’t
have to be your family, or relationships or your purpose. When other very vital
aspect of your life is sacrificed on the altar of career success, it leaves a
yearning that no amount of money can fill, and most importantly a feeling of not
being totally whole. You can have it all, career, love, marriage &
everything else that is important in your life.
2. 2 Simplify your life. The busier your life, the
more hectic your pace becomes, the harder you work. We are in era of smart-work
and not hard-work, alone. Do you really have to bring your work home? Do your
kids really need all those extracurricular activities? Do all your meals have
to made from scratch? Why does a family of four have 20 dishes on their kitchen
rack? Is that Friday night boogie a do or die affair, when your laundry is
overflowing? What can you let go off, to accommodate the more important things
in your life?
3. 3 Have a plan for your day, everyday! A trick I learnt
early in life, is to break down my daily activities into compartments. What MUST
I do today? What SHOULD I do today? What CAN I do today to make tomorrow’s
activities easier? This list has every area of my life in it, with time
allotted for guidance. You may not follow this exact method, you must find a
pattern, you could tweak till it fits you like a second skin. Have a to do
list, failing to plan is planning to fail. How many times have you forgotten
something important because your day was so hectic?
Creating balance in your life, is an art to be mastered. It
will not happen in a day, neither will it be an easy journey, but you can trust
me when I say, it will be a worthwhile one. Don’t be so busy making a living
that you forget to live.
Remember, Work, Family, Friends are all good. Your responsibility
